This year marks the fifth anniversary of Emirati Women’s Day, since it was launched by Sheikha Fatima in 2015.
When is Emirati Women’s Day?
Emirati Women’s Day takes place on August 28 each year.
When was the day launched?
Emirati Women’s Day was launched by Sheikha Fatima in 2015. The national day celebrating women also coincides with the founding of the UAE’s General Women’s Union which launched in 1975 on August 28.
What is this year’s theme?
In May, the Mother of the Nation announced that this year’s theme for the day celebrating UAE women would be “Preparing for the next 50 years: women are the support of the nation”.
This mantra is in line with the nationwide goals of the UAE, after it was announced at the end of 2019 that 2020 would be a year that marks a year of preparation. This is to ready the nation for the UAE’s Golden Jubilee next year.
According to WAM, Sheikha Fatima has “stressed that Emirati women have proven to everyone that they are capable of supporting the country under all circumstances”.
They play a vital role in helping the UAE succeed in the next 50 years, and can work along with men to shape the future.
