Fujairah is the fifth largest emirate, and one of the seven emirates that constitute the UAE. The Emirate of Fujairah is unique among the rest of the Emirates , because it is located on the Gulf of Oman , outside the Strait of Hormuz .
Fujairah city is a modern, industrial town and the main settlement of the east coast.
Not much oil was ever found in Fujairah. The emirate depends on agriculture, boatbuilding and fishing for its economy. The city’s coasts were cleaned of landmines in 1987, and the ports were set up to provision and repair merchant ships. Shipping and boating are still relatively new industries.
