Enjoy local crafts and cuisine at Sharjah Broadcasting Authority’s ‘heritage village’ in Khorfakkan Amphitheatre

Event marks the inauguration of Khorfakkan Amphitheatre

Ramping up the grand celebrations and activities to mark the inauguration of the Khorfakkan Amphitheatre, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA) is organising a ‘heritage village’ which will showcase the rich variety of Emirati handicrafts and the original flavours of the local cuisine from December 15 – 19.

Walking around the village, reminiscent of Khorfakkan’s vibrant cultural past, visitors will be able to choose from a wide selection of Emirati art and crafts including traditional embroidery and jewellery at stalls and kiosks, get their hands decorated with traditional Henna patterns by local artists, while enjoying Emirati delights such as Luqaimat, Jibab and Raqqa bread, among other delicious treats. Food trucks serving regional and international dishes will also be available to cater to varied tastes.

An atmosphere of fun and frolic will prevail, with the village hosting a number of entertainment activities. Carts will be available to transport visitors across the venue.

Screening of Khorfakkan extended to December 19

Meanwhile, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority announced that the screening of the historical epic Khorfakkan at the amphitheatre had been extended by two days to December 17 in view of the huge response and booking requests being received.

Earlier, the two-hour film was scheduled to be screened for three days from December 15 – 17 at 7.30 pm daily to celebrate the inauguration of the amphitheatre.

The SBA production highlights the epic resistance put up by Khorfakkan’s inhabitants during a ruthless Portuguese invasion of the city more than 500 years ago.

The film is based on the historical book, Khorfakkan’s Resistance Against the Portuguese Invasion of September 1507, by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Syrian actor Rasheed Assaf; Emirati actors Ahmed Al Jasmi, Mohammed

Al Ameri, and Dr. Habib Ghloum; Syrian Qais Shaikh Najeeb, lead a prominent cast directed by Christopher George.

The film will premiere in cinemas across the UAE on December 17.
