Surprisingly, the UAE has a variety of desserts, mainly made of sugar, dates and flour. These desserts can be served alongside some fruit platter after lunch or for an early snack at noon. You will not find cakes and fancy made desserts in the local cuisine; however, the preparation of these desserts requires knowledge and practice.
The famous golden balls that is almost like mini doughnuts submerged in dates syrup.
Fried dumplings covered with date syrup Ingredients:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoon powdered milk
- 2 tablespoon corn starch
- 2 tablespoon instant dried yeast
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon rosewater
- Pinch of saffron
- Water as needed
- Vegetable Oil
- Date Syrup
- Sesame seeds
Directions:
Mix all dried ingredients together in a large bowl.
Add rosewater and water and mix it with the dried ingredients. The dough should have the consistency of pancake dough but slightly thicker.
Cover with a cloth and let it rise and rest for at least 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a saucepan. You can test the temperature with a drop of the dough. It should sink and then rise to the top of the oil.
For dropping balls of dough or dumplings you can either use hands or greased ice cream scooper or a piping bag.
Fry dumplings till golden brown.
Place on kitchen roll sheets to remove excess oil.
Move to the serving dish, drizzle with syrup and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top.
