The Fujairah Municipality ordered the closure of the Central Fish Market in the emirate for approximately four months. Informed sources with the civic society said the temporary closure took effect from Wednesday, January 27th, 2021.
“The Central Fish Market, based at Al Ghurfa area, has been closed to introduce thorough maintenance and development works,” they said. Customers are advised to visit the alternative fish market at the Fishermen Society at Al Rugaylat Port area.
“All types of fresh fish, local and imported, will be secured at affordable prices at the alternative market as was the case at the Central Fish Market, which was a key player in the seafood trade in the emirate,” they said. The fish market is open to customers from 7am to 9pm on a daily basis.
The Ministry of Climate Change issued a decree banning the fishing of Gabit and Kuffer fish, starting from February 1st for a period of 3 years, the decision called on the fishermen to release them back into the sea if caught within their nets, taking adequate care to ensure their safety.
The regulate fishing for Gabit and Kuffar, will give them an opportunity to grow and multiply, in a way that ensures the enhancement and increase of the vital reserves in the UAE waters.
