The centre of the Bakthiari weaving area is found south east of Isfahan in Shahkurd (Town of the Kurds).
The weavers of Bakhtiari were formally a nomadic people and settled eventually in hundreds of villages in the area. There are a great variety of colours to be found in the carpets produced in this area.
Principle colours include white, ivory, red, brown, green and yellow (but relatively little blue). Most of the carpets are coloured with natural dyes and the main designs are of a garden of medallion type.
