Ramadan Everyday Activities – Day 9 Decoupage

Decoupage or découpage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf and other decorative elements. Commonly, an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cutouts from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers.

Instructions

  1. Prepare your surface. Practically any surface can be used to create a decoupage project. Appropriate surfaces include wood, terra cotta, tin, cardboard and glass. Optional: basecoat your surface with acrylic paint.
  2.  Choose your Mod Podge formula.
  3. Put together to be Mod Podged. Cut out the material that you are planning to decoupage. Try out with design elements to determine the layout of the piece.
  4. Cut items to fit the surface.
  5. Stick each element with your Mod Podge. Apply a medium coat of Mod Podge to the surface.
  6.  Keep smoothing until all of the bubbles are removed. Next let it dry for 15 – 20 minutes.
  7. Apply a protective coat of Mod Podge to the project using a flat brush. Allow to dry and then repeat the step. Let dry completely before using.
