Five pillars of Islam: Testimony of Faith
Within a few decades of the demise of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), five practices were singled out to serve as anchors for the community and designated as pillars. They are mentioned individually throughout the Quran, and they are also listed together in the Hadith.
The five pillars of Islam, Arkan Al Islam or Arkan Al Din, comprise five specific acts that are expected of every Muslim as a sign of commitment to faith. Carrying out these obligations provides the framework of a Muslim’s life, and weaves everyday activities and beliefs into the fabric of religious devotion.
