Botanical Description

Annual or biennial stems winged, bristly, erect, up to 40cm.

Leaves

Alternating, lance-shaped, wavy or serrated edges.

Flowers

Flower heads with tubular yellow florets, solitary, and sweet scented flower head bracts with pale yellow spines longer than the flower.

Fruits

Attached to tufts of hair.

Flowering

From February to April.

Habitat

Sandy plains.

Distribution

Common and widespread in the northern emirates, also recorded in Al-Ain.

Uses

There are no records of its use in the UAE.
