Pakistani Carpets: Turkomani

The ancient country of Pakistan has a four-hundred-year history of carpet making. The ancient city of Lahore was one of the most strategically important cities of northwest India and often suffered countless invasions from Central and Western Asia.

The city prospered commercially and culturally under Mogul’s rule.

After the independence from the British Empire in 1947, the Pakistani carpet industry began to grow steadily.

They produced carpets that were finely knotted using special wool, silk, and cotton. The carpets are of multiple colors and designs, of which Bukhara is one of the most famous.

Turkomani designs are geometric in style and similar to Iranian designs.
