XCAT World Championship

XCAT Boat race in Fujairah

The XCAT World Championship, involves racing on water with ‘XCATs’, short for Xtreme Catamarans. The Championship has grown to be the most challenging and extreme forms of offshore powerboat racing in the world over the few years since its formation in 2009 and sporting launch in 2012.

The Championship is one of the most thrilling and epic experiences for a fan. With boats capable of reaching speeds of over 200 kmh (125 mph) on a track as rough as any off road motorsport and as unpredictable as free-will, the WOW factor just doesn’t end there. Unlike tarmac racing or rallying, where surface conditions don’t vary, XCATs race in uncertain conditions where one can see waves of up to 2 meters and feel winds of 20 knots at times (we would definitely recommend a rain coat and not an umbrella!).

Manoeuvred by two daredevils – the driver handles the steering by judging the wind, sea conditions and the power his team mate provides him, while the throttler takes the responsibility of the throttle and the trim to give maximum power to his teammate and making sure the boat doesn’t catch much air.

XCAT boats are multi-hull structures made of advanced carbon technology and powered by two 4-stroke outboard engines totalling 800 hp.

The sport today sees the largest international contingent and numbers in any form of offshore racing competing at spectacular locations across the globe.
