When ‘seven’ is mentioned you might immediately think of the ‘wonders of the World’, a particularly gruesome film staring Brad Pitt, the continents and of course the seven Emirates that make up the UAE.
As you leave the city limits of Fujairah towards Dubai, on your left-hand side just after the Zayed Sports Complex is Flag Park and the start of the Seven Summits Trail.
I have walked this trail numerous times, the first being a night walk in the dark when it was very narrow and dusty. Now it is wide and if the landscaping at the beginning of the trail is completed throughout its length, it will be truly amazing.
This pleasant 1.8km walk that starts with a series of hairpins that climb you quickly up about 70m to the first ‘mini fort’. The start of the trail is a little bit steep and most people will be a bit tired on it, but don’t worry its quite short and well worth the effort.
Once on the top of the trail, you follow it along the ridge and have the opportunity to explore all the Forts. Each fort is unique and can be entered. There are many windows to look through, each one frames a beautiful picture. With the exploring complete and photos taken you descend the zig zaggy trail and return along the foot of the mountain to the car park.
Saeed Al Memari, the General Manager of Fujairah Adventures told me all about the meaning of the Seven Forts and his plans for the trail. Each of the seven forts were designed by Fujairah Tourism & Antiquities Authority and they represent the seven Emirates of the UAE.
The forts are luminated at night entirely by energy efficient solar panels. The final trail will have a rest and relaxation area, complete with fountain. Also once finished it will include outdoor fitness equipment for all to use.
Best time of the day to walk the Seven Summits is at sundown and I can guarantee you will have an enjoyable walk and some amazing photos for your album. The trail will appeal to all people, the person who wants an easy walk, the family and also the fitness enthusiast. It’s open all year round and I look forward to seeing you there.
