The Resistance Monument highlights the city’s history and tell the story of Khorfakkan’s people who sacrificed their lives to protect their city during the invasion.

Experience the history of Khorfakkan by visiting the Resistance Monument which lies at the entrance to the town. Sitting atop a hill that overlooks Khorfakkan Square, the monument honors those who resisted the Portuguese invasion in 1507. Remnants of the Portuguese era are still visible across Khorfakkan and the walkway around the memorial is the perfect place to look out over the town and reflect on its history. Visitors will also be able to spot the monument with its curved geometric design from several points throughout the city.

Under the instruction of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of SHarjah this monument was built to pay tribute to the people of Khor Fakkan who resisted the Portuguese invasion of 1507. Whereas other towns surrendered immediately, Khor Fakkan’s brave people resisted for two days against the Portuguese forces who were equipped with fire arms.

The monument resembles a warrior’s helmet as a symbol of resistance, situated on a prominent hill top. The Resistance Monument narrates an inspiring story of the people of Khor Fakkan.

It allows us to contemplate the sacrifices they made defending their town. To learn about this epic battle, visitors can watch the ( Khor Fakkan 1507 – 1534) film showing at the theatre located on the ground floor, as also visiting the viewing gallery next to it.
