UAE Postal Stamps: Stamps in Braille
The United Arab Emirates celebrates the International White Cane Day, which falls on 15 October of each year, to raise awareness of visually impaired people and services offered to ensure the safety of the Blind in public places. On this occasion, Emirates Post Group has issued a set of postage commemorative stamps. The stamps carry the slogan “UAE with you” in different languages as well as in Braille.
The issuing of stamps in Braille seeks to highlight the capabilities of visually impaired people as well as the need for their integration into mainstream society, through closer interaction with normal students in schools and colleges. The blind are among the easiest disabilities to be integrated into society because they do not suffer from mental problems.
These stamps are issued in coordination with Emirates Association of the Visually Impaired, which was founded in 1983 and declared in 1985 as a public utility association offering its services to the visually impaired in the UAE, in addition to the Press for the Blind run by Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.
