Cheesy Potato and Mince Roll
Transform simple ingredients into a masterpiece with this cheesy, meaty potato roll – perfect for a satisfying weeknight meal!
Ingredients:
- 2 large potatoes, thinly sliced into delicate ribbons
- 300g melty cheese, shredded or roughly grated
- 400g ground meat (beef, lamb, or chicken, your choice!)
- A fragrant symphony of garlic, onion, and your favourite herbs
- A pinch of salt and pepper to make the flavours sing
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Prepare a baking tray with loyal parchment paper, ready to catch the cheesy deliciousness.
- Scatter a golden blanket of grated cheese in the bottom of the tray. Nestle the thinly sliced potatoes on top, creating a bed of starchy goodness.
- Add another layer of cheesy comfort on top of the potatoes. Pop this into the warm embrace of the oven for 30-35 minutes. Let the potatoes melt into tender perfection, and the cheese bubble into golden bliss. Set it aside to cool, allowing the cheese to hold everything together in a firm embrace.
- While the potatoes dream of cheese, cook your chosen ground meat on the stove. Let garlic, onion, and your favourite herbs weave their magic, infusing the mince with flavor. I add a special touch: roasting whole garlic cloves for 11 minutes at 180°C (350°F) with a drizzle of olive oil, then squishing them into the mince for an extra punch of garlicky goodness.
- Let the cooked mince cool down slightly. Then, spread it out in a thin layer over the cooled potatoes and cheese, creating a hearty meaty blanket.
- The grand finale! Carefully, but confidently, roll up the potatoes, cheese, and mince into a tight, delicious cylinder. Slice it into thick rounds, revealing the beautiful swirls of potato, cheese, and meat within.
- Serve this masterpiece with a side of your choice. A fresh salad adds a crisp counterpoint, roasted vegetables sing in harmony, or simply enjoy the pure cheesy, meaty joy on its own.
