Zayed Sports Complex Fujairah to host 2 Taekwondo tournaments

Zayed Sports Complex Fujairah to host 2 Taekwondo tournaments under the sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the 4th Arab Taekwondo Cup and the 11th Fujairah International Taekwondo Championships will start February 1st.

During their press conference, the organizing committee announced the final details of the two championships.

The Arab Open Taekwondo Cup with a rating of (G1) will be held on Thursday and Friday of the coming week with the participation of 1,306 players and players, followed by the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship from February 4th to 7th, which will witness the largest participation of its kind with the presence of 2,313 players from all over the world.

More than 3,000 players and players will participate in the two tournaments, with strong competition among them in order to reach the podium.

It is worth noting that the tournament administration has allocated a virtual Taekwondo area for the first time, where participants will be able to experience the virtual Taekwondo game that was recently adopted by the International Taekwondo Federation.

Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zayoudi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, welcomed the guests of the state, and said that the tournament is being held based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, to host international sporting events, for its important role in promoting sports activity and tourism in the emirate.

He added that this edition will witness a historic event that is being recorded for the first time, namely the awarding of the International Taekwondo Federation’s Human Personality Award for 2023 to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, in recognition of His Highness’ role in supporting refugees around the world.

Nasser Abu Shawish, tournament director and Fujairah Martial Arts Club, confirmed the completion of preparations to host the two tournaments in accordance with the best arrangements that comply with international standards, to achieve the organizational superiority that the UAE and the emirate of Fujairah are distinguished by in hosting major international sporting championships.

He announced that the two tournaments will witness a technical refereeing system for the first time, which will be used in the Paris Olympics, which gives this distinctiveness to the players to know this system and reinforces their confidence and can prepare for the Olympics.

Abu Shawish confirmed the participation of a group of elite players worldwide in the Fujairah Championship, which is the only one within the international G2 classification, to become the first in the Middle East, and the second in Asia.

He added: The list includes champions who have won world titles, achieved many international achievements in tournaments in recent years, in addition to stars who have participated in the Olympic Games.
