The organizing committee of the Fifth Arab Cup and the Twelfth Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship revealed the final preparations for the highly anticipated sporting event during a press conference held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, at the Fujairah Martial Arts Club.
During the conference, the organizing committee announced the details of both championships, which are held under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah will host the competitions, bringing together elite taekwondo athletes from around the world.
The Arab Open Cup (G1 category) will take place from February 5th to 7th, 2025, featuring 1,534 athletes. It will be followed by the Fujairah International Open Championship, one of the world’s largest taekwondo tournaments, running from February 9th to 13th, 2025. This year’s edition will see its largest participation ever, with 2,628 male and female athletes. The total number of participants across both championships is expected to exceed 4,000, ensuring fierce competition for top ranks and medals.
Leadership Support and Fujairah’s Vision for Sports
In his address at the conference, Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, welcomed all delegations and national teams. He emphasized that hosting these championships aligns with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, who places great importance on hosting major international sporting events due to their significant role in promoting both sports and tourism in Fujairah.
Nader Aboushaweesh, the Tournament Director and Director of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, confirmed that all preparations are complete to host the event according to the highest international standards. He highlighted that the tournament follows the successful track record of both the UAE and Fujairah in organizing major global competitions.
Aboushaweesh added: “This year’s championship will feature 10 Olympic champions who achieved outstanding results at the Paris Olympics. Their participation will enhance the level of competition and provide athletes with a unique opportunity to compete against the world’s best.”
He also noted that the Fujairah Martial Arts Club has completed its preparations for the international championship following an intensive training camp, which included national teams from Arab, Asian, and European countries. The camp aimed to create a highly competitive environment and offer valuable learning experiences for the athletes.
Unprecedented Prizes in the World of Taekwondo
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the organizing committee announced valuable prizes for the top winners.
- The first-place winner in the men’s and women’s categories of the Arab Cup will receive airline tickets provided by EgyptAir.
- In the Fujairah International Open Championship, the first-place female winner will be awarded a 2-carat diamond from Kara Diamonds, marking an unprecedented move in the history of open taekwondo championships.
Both tournaments are expected to attract a large audience and witness intense competitions among the world’s top taekwondo athletes, further solidifying Fujairah’s status as a premier destination for hosting international sporting events.
