Muscat: Celebrations across the country marked Oman’s 49th National Day, as locals and expats alike marked the day with tributes and performances dedicated to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
Schools in Oman celebrated the day with song-and-dance performances, ministries paid homage to His Majesty, and traditional bands played patriotic songs celebrating the achievements of the country.
Many of Oman’s major roads were bedecked with decorative lighting in the colours of the red, white and green of Oman’s flag, which fluttered from every flag pole in the country.
Leaders of the other five countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council wished His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the Sultanate of Oman on the occasion of the country’s 49th National Day.
The Qatar News Agency said, “HH the Emir sent a cable of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman on the occasion of his country’s National Day. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior sent a cable of congratulations to HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman on the occasion of his country’s National Day.”
In this context, the Bahrain News Agency added, “His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa sent a cable of congratulations to HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman on his country’s national day.”
“His Highness the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al-Sabah sent a cable to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said congratulating him on Oman’s national day,” added the Kuwait News Agency.
“HH the Emir expressed in the cable his deepest wishes of progress and development for Oman’s leadership and people.”
“The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has sent a cable of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of the Sultanate of Oman on the anniversary of his country’s National Day,” said the Saudi Press Agency.
“In his cable, the King wished His Majesty constant good health and happiness and the government and people of Oman steady progress and prosperity. The King also praised the distinguished relations between the two countries, which they are keen to develop in all fields.”
Oman is a member of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, with the other five being Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Greetings came from the leaders of the emirates of the UAE, with the UAE’s state-run press agency WAM reporting, “President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, on the occasion of his country’s National Day, which is
observed on November 18th.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar congratulatory messages to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, on the occasion,” added WAM. Greetings also came from HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the ruler of Fujairah, HH Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, the ruler of Umm Al Quwain, HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the ruler of Ajman, HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah, as well as Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president’s representative.
Ministries in Oman also congratulated His Majesty and the country on this occasion.
