Fujairah – The Arabian Jewel
Fujairah has often been referred to as the “Jewel” of the Emirates. With the impressive backdrop of the rugged Hajar mountains looming over the Gulf of Oman, the Emirates has drawn tourists from all over the world. Apart from its unique natural beauty Fujairah also has a wealth of heritage sites to experience and explore. And with its unique cultural balance between the modern and the traditional is ideally placed to answer the demands of discerning tourists in future years.
Fujairah is the youngest of the UAE’s seven emirates and is regarded as the prettiest part of the country with its mountain scenery and wadis (dried river beds).
Fujairah is also a busy trading centre, with a modern container port and thriving Free Zone attracting major companies from around the world.
Visitors can have unique experiences such as bird-watching the white collared kingfisher, which breeds nowhere else in the world, dhow trips; off-road safaris and the visit the UAE’s best dive sites.
Expect to see plenty of small black tip sharks, turtles, amazing coloured cuttle fish, whale sharks are common and the whole area is packed with rays, eels and every tropical fish you can imagine. This is also a well protected area, so fishing, collecting shells, touching marine life is prohibited.
Dibba is Fujairah’s second largest town and the northernmost in the Emirate. Surrounded by Mountains, Dibba’s beach is known for its clean, unpolluted waters.
It also boasts a small museum showcasing archaeological and ethnographic displays, a charming heritage village; old watchtowers and forts; waterfalls and natural hot springs; several archaeological sites including the Long Chambered Tomb, tought to have been a communal burial place, and the impressive Fujairah Fort. The many cultural and historic sites reflect the young Emirate’s old history.
