Staycation in Fujairah: Al Aqah
This is Fujairah’s booming tourist region, with new hotels having opened up and more planned alongside the venerable Sandy Beach Hotel. Sandy Beach is a friendly beach hotel and a great place to spend a lazy Friday afternoon, or the whole weekend.
It has the added bonus of being just a stone’s throw away from Snoopy Island, one of the UAE’s best spots for diving and snorkeling. It is possible to park on the public beach on either side of Sandy Beach for free, and then swim out to the island if you have your own snorkel.
But for an entry charge (approximately Dhs.100 -150) you get to use the hotel’s facilities, including a chilled pool and shady grounds. For more luxurious accommodation, up the beach are the towering Le Meridien Al Aqah, the low-rise Fujairah Rotana Resort and the traditionally styled Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort – all five-star properties with matching service and facilities.
