UAE experiences unprecedented rainfall
The UAE experienced an unprecedented weather event, receiving its heaviest rainfall on record over the past 24 hours. This historic downpour, surpassing previous records since the inception of data collection in 1949, affected various regions across the nation.
The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed that the rainfall, recorded up to 9 pm on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, marks a significant event in the UAE’s climate history. The center anticipates further increases in rainfall amounts in the subsequent hours.
The area of Khatm Al Shakla in Al Ain saw the highest rainfall, with 254 mm falling in less than 24 hours. This event surpasses the previous record of 287.6 mm recorded at the NCM’s Shuwaib station on March 9, 2016.
This substantial rainfall is set to boost the annual rainfall average significantly and will contribute to enhancing the UAE’s groundwater reserves.
